Five Senses Week

This week was all about our five senses!

Monday the platypi focused on their sense of smell. They did various learning worksheets to introduce them to the concept of their five senses. They also played with a Mr. Potato Head doll to explore these senses as they pertain to their bodies. The platypi explored their sense of smell by smelling various spices in the kitchen.

Tuesday the platypi explored their sense of taste though an experiment comparing salt and sugar. They also used salt to make salt paintings of their names. Finally, they explored taste as they tried a new food of their choosing.

Wednesday the platypi explored their sense of hearing through making music with their own instruments. They also made their own egg shakers by placing various items into plastic eggs to experiment with different noises. They finished the day with a sound matching game. We used homemade shaker eggs by placing a variety of household items in various eggs, but you can buy a premade set linked below.

Thursday was focused on the sense of sight as the platypi played iSpy throughout our home, used iSpy tubs, and embarked on a shape scavenger hunt. They also had to guess an object while blindfolded to experiment with lack of sight.

Friday the platypi learned about their sense of touch through a chia seed sensory bin. They also wrapped up the week with a five senses sort as well as other worksheets where they discussed their favorite things to see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.
