Butterfly Week

This week was all about BUTTERFLIES!

Monday It’s butterfly week! The platypi started the week with reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, caterpillar pom pom pattern matching, a caterpillar counting activity, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar story sequencing.

Tuesday The platypi continued to learn about butterflies by exploring symmetry through a butterfly painting activity. The day continued with The Very Hungry Caterpillar counting. Then, they looked at various butterfly identifications. The day concluded with a paper chain caterpillar craft and a tissue paper butterfly craft.

Wednesday The day started with The Very Hungry Caterpillar tracing and letter activities. Then, the platypi explored the Butterfly life cycle and did some butterfly themed coloring.

Thursday The platypi used their fine motor skill to punch holes in paper leaves to look like a caterpillar had been eating them. Next, they made handprint caterpillars to resemble the The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We combined these two to make a mixed media product. The platypi also reviewed the butterfly life cycle and did a butterfly symmetry painting.

Friday The week ended with reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar at the request of the platypi. Then, they played with a butterfly life cycle sensory bin. This bin included “eggs” represented by small shells, cocoons/chrysalises as medium shells, rotini as caterpillars, and farfalle as butterfly. The pasta was all pre-dyed to make it more inviting. We finished the week with butterfly pasta for dinner.
